為了慶祝第一個「台灣女孩日」，苗栗縣政府與勵馨基金會11日在縣府大廳召開記者會，用戲劇、短片及拼圖形式，讓社會大眾從不同的角度認識性別平等。
聯合國訂每年十月十一日是「國際女孩日」，內政部今年起也訂這一天為「台灣女孩日」，以身心維護、教育及人力投資、人身安全保障及媒體傳統禮俗等四大面向，落實與維護女孩權益。
11日上午，縣府與勵馨基金會為讓苗栗民眾認識「台灣女孩日」的精神，召開「幸福山城．讓苗栗女孩飛揚」記者會，縣長劉政鴻、勵馨基金會副執行長廖育珩、陳超明立委夫人吳麗利、苗栗地院書記官長劉秋雯、苗栗市長邱炳坤等人繫粉紅花布領帶、手巾，同聲呼籲幫助女孩獲得應有權益與發展。
縣府勞社處長陳錦俊指出，自縣長上任後積極推動「婦女旗艦計畫」，每年補助婦女社團辦理性別平等、自我成長研習等活動，七年多來逾八百場次、約七萬二千人次受益，並委託聯合大學訂定婦女政策白皮書，全力落實性別平等，未來仍將持續投資苗栗女孩。
劉政鴻表示，他常要求男性要尊重及體恤女性，以女性懷胎十月來說，男孩試著以排球裝水綁在肚皮上體驗，就能了解「男孩比較好命」，並倡導女男平等，希望男性學習分擔家事、尊重女孩，亦呼籲男性摒除大男人主義，體恤、善待苗栗的女孩，成就幸福山城。
記者會中邀請性別戲劇團體以「台灣女孩的獨白」，讓民眾了解現今社會的女孩依然受限的生活處境，引起在場女性觀眾的共鳴，希望藉由台灣女孩日來宣導兩性平等，不要讓女孩輸在起跑點。
會中除了進行「性別旋風、快閃苗栗」短片首映，劉政鴻並偕同出席人員一起宣誓，將盡一己之力改變台灣社會中許多抑制台灣女孩成長的處境，並分別以「打破性別歧視」、「愛，終止暴力」、「我是女生，就是要活得精彩」、「女孩的生命權」等四大面向圖片，一起拼出讓苗栗女孩飛揚的城市地圖，藉此擴大宣導效益。
