馬林魚隊雖然是老闆Jeffrey Loria完全執政，但戰績奇差無比，卻拿棒球事業部總裁Larry Beinfest祭旗。Loria宣布開除Beinfest、以及Beinfest的特別助理Jim Fleming，兩位老臣都在馬林魚隊服務12年。
2001年，Loria還在當博覽會隊(現國民隊)老闆時，Beinfest就已經為他效力。隔年Loria入主馬林魚隊，也把Beinfest帶過去。「Beinfest 為我工作了13年，」Loria的聲明寫著，「他是我重要夥伴，貢獻良多。我要獻上最誠摯的祝福，他無論到哪裡去，都會帶來很大的幫助。」
Loria和Beinfest到了馬林魚隊不久，就開創高峰，2003年這支隊伍拿到世界大賽冠軍，但自那之後，沒再打進季後賽，最近4個球季勝率都不到5成，而且敗場數越來越多，今年甚至突破100敗。這當然跟老闆Loria縮減預算有關，但他沒有下詔罪己，反而「都是they的錯」，砍掉老臣。
Beinfest發簡訊給媒體記者：「我剛剛被老闆Loria開除了，感謝馬林魚隊給我機會。回顧過去，我積極正面地面對各種挑戰、搬進新球場、並且很享受世界大賽冠軍的滋味。我在這兒，跟許多很棒的選手、工作人員共事，感謝你們的友誼，以及工作上的尊敬。」
