台灣三大節日之一的中秋節，台鐵總是湧入大量返鄉人潮。對此，台鐵將加開班次因應。
中秋假期自9月19日至22日止，共4天連續假期，預估9月18日午後及19日，為第一波旅客疏運尖峰；另22日午後收假日為節後尖峰。20日預估將有63萬人次疏運量。
東部幹線共加開36列次，加掛79輛車廂，將可多出48,852個座位。預計可比平日增加39%的運量。西部幹線共加開104列次，加掛10輛車廂，將可多出48,422個座位。預計可比平日增加9%的運量。南迴線的部分則加開3列次，加掛44節車廂。將可讓12,523位乘客有座位。運能較平日增加27%。
整個中秋連假總計開行244列次，加開62列次，加掛133節車廂。總提供109,797座位。運能較平日增加20%。
