在菲律賓造成萬人死亡的海燕颱風所產生的大湧，竟將台南曾文溪以南到喜樹地區沿海將近１萬棚的蚵架打上岸，蚵民損失慘重，據估算金額約在４、５億，平均每位蚵農損失在１、２百萬元之譜。

台南市副議長郭信良、市議員陳怡珍接獲蚵民陳情，１１日邀請市府官員勘災，發現綿延１０幾公里的海岸線，都是被大浪沖上岸邊的蚵棚，讓蚵民是欲哭無淚。

據漁會與農業局初步估計，市府列管的蚵棚數量大約有9600棚，這次失損失大約在３成左右，金額約在４、５億之間，市府將報請農委會專案處理。
